If anyone knew what tension feels like, it was Jairus. His daughter was fading fast, but Jesus, the Healer, was willing to come see her. Unfortunately, the traffic was ridiculous. People pressed in on every side. Jairus felt his blood pressure rising and wanted to scream at everyone: “MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!” But, as desperate as he was, he had a feeling that might not make a good impression on Jesus. And he needed Jesus. So they kept their polite, slow pace.
If that wasn’t frustrating enough, Jesus actually stopped. He looked around the crowd asking “Who touched me?”
Are you kidding? Everyone is pressing around you, Jesus! What are you talking about?
Then they had to wait for a lady to confess that she touched His robe and found healing for some kind of health problem. Any other day, Jairus would have enjoyed that special moment, but today he needed Jesus to hurry up. Today, seconds and minutes meant the difference between life and death for his 12-year-old girl.
And then he saw them coming. Jairus knew by the looks on their faces that the news was not good.
“It’s too late. She’s dead. No need to bother the Teacher anymore.”
Jairus nearly lost it. They were so close! If it hadn’t been for rush-hour traffic; if it hadn’t been for the sick lady, they would have made it. But now…it was too late. No need to bother…
“Don’t be afraid. Just trust Me,” Jesus said.
Jairus wasn’t sure what to do, but he figured he had nothing to lose. He knew death was very real. But something about Jesus’ words made him want to trust Him; to believe that He could handle this. So they kept going. It wasn’t long before Jairus would realize this was the best decision he had made in his life—because Jesus woke his little girl up from death!
Why do you need Jesus? Have you talked to Him about that, or did something along the way make you stop “bothering” Him? Maybe its friends or family telling you it’s too late, it doesn’t matter, it’s impossible. Maybe the loudest voice is coming from yourself—to give up hoping and dreaming; you’re tired. It feels useless to bother Jesus any more.
Listen to what Jesus has to say to you: “Don’t be afraid. Just trust Me.”
And then let Him go with you. Don’t leave Him behind. Don’t stop bothering Him. He wants to come with you and display His glory in your impossible, irreversible, dead circumstances.
Don’t be afraid. Just trust Him, and keep moving.
